The Air Fryer Fad, phase or essential piece of kitchen equipment? With the lack of ovens in most Thai kitchen’s, the substitute alternative ovens that are available are either toaster ovens or uninsulated countertop ovens, that can make heating anything without scorching or burning the outside a little challenging. So, is the air fryer a welcome piece of kit? We put it to the test, cooking some of our products in one of Sloane’s hot kitchen’s and the results were somewhat surprising. The Sloane’s view – although not really needed if you own an oven already, for condo living where there is often no space for an oven this could be a real advantage to any condo kitchen. It opens up the possibilitys to cook so much more, especially to reheat pastry items that suffer so badly when microwaved. We also found it better than many small table top toaster ovens. For those that do own an oven, it still gives some additional options for healthy fat free cooking. We’ll add some more recipe soon, but have had great results with ‘fried’ chicken and fish though our test kitchen.

- Sloane’s Sausage Rolls OK fessing up, at Sloane’s we use Maison Jean Philippe puff pastry for our sausage rolls, why? Simple. We think it’s the best puff pastry in Thailand and m ade using real butter. Rolled around Sloane’s cumberland sausage meat it’s a match made in heaven. Air fryer from frozen – Preheat the air fryer for 4 mins. Cut the sausage rolls to your desired size and brush with egg. Place directly in the Air fryer for 15 minutes at 180 C. This produces perfectly cooked pastry and a piping hot filling.
- Sloane’s Pies One thing you cannot mess with is cooked pastry, especially when it’s a shortcrust 100% real butter pastry, wrapped around some beef or chicken & friends, in a red wine gravy. Although they can be heated in the microwave, microwaves and pastry really don’t mix, soi we were extra happy with the results in the airfryer! Air fryer results: We cooked from both fresh and frozen. From Fresh: Pre-heat air fryer for 4 mins. 20 minutes at 180 C in the air fryer, produced a perfectly cooked pie, the filling was 80 degrees C and the pastry perfectly cooked through as it should be. From Frozen: Pre-heat air fryer for 4 mins. Cover with foil, and cook for 30 minutes at 160 C in the air fryer. Then remove the foil and place back in for a further 10mins. 40 mins in all for a perfectly cooked pie, the filling was hot through and the pastry perfectly cooked through as it should be.
- Sloane’s Corn’ish Pasty Sloane’s take on the original Cornish pasty. Sloane’s Cornish pasties are as authentic as can be made outside of Cornwall, with beef skirt, potato, onion and the all-important, swede or rutabaga (although we do prefer top crimping, sorry Cornwall 🙂 ) Air fryer results: We cooked from both fresh and frozen. From Fresh: Pre-heat the air fryer for 4 mins. Place the pasty in the airfryer draw for 20 minutes at 180 C. This produced a perfectly cooked pasty with a hot filling and crispy pastry. From Frozen: Pre-heat the air fryer for 4 mins. Place the frozen pasty in the air fryer set at 160C, cook for 40 mins. The filling was hot through and the pastry perfectly cooked as it should be.
- Sloane’s Half Smoked chicken A whole certified organic chicken, herb brined and slowly smoked over Lychee wood, Cooked and ready to eat cold. Air fryer: Preheat your air fryer 4-5 minutes. Place the half smoked chicken skin side up in the basket and cook for 15 mins on 180C, then leave to rets for a few minutes. This gives a great moist chicken thats hot all the way through and with a crispy skin.
